The Glenvar softball team split their last two games before spring break and went into their week off with a 3-1 record.
Last Wednesday at home the Highlanders took a 7-4 win over visiting Covington as Lydia Taylor drilled three solo home runs. Olivia Adams also had a solo shot and Maddie Martinez went three-for-three and scored twice. Jamie Burton had two hits and McKenzie Pulliam drove in two runs.
On the mound Courtney Raines picked up her third win without a loss. She had four strikeouts.
On Thursday, also at home, the Highlanders went down to defeat for the first time, 6-2 at the hands of Staunton River.
Katherine Ward got the start on the mound for Glenvar as coach Lonnie Raines gave Courtney a day off. Ward had not thrown a pitch in a game since middle school and the Eagles touched her for five third inning runs on five hits.
At the plate, Raines and Taylor had two hits each and Ward, Adams and Burton all had one hit.
The Highlanders will return to action next Tuesday, April 10, at home against Alleghany.
