“Coach Daniel and I have been coaching this team for five years and last week’s meet was the best for the boys during our tenure,” said Glenvar coach Shannon Hall. “The Highlanders were hitting on all cylinders as they swept the competition for both the boys and girls teams. Along the way they set a new school record, had three state championship qualifying times and set nine new High School personal records.”
The Boys’ 200 medley relay team of Avery Thompson, Zander Honaker, Connor Wilkes and Landon Cairns took first place, breaking a five year old school record and qualifying for the state championship. Cairns was first in the boys’ 200 individual medley, Wilkes won the 100 butterfly and qualified for states while Honaker won the 100 freestyle. Cairns also won the 500 free and Wilkes took the win for the boys in the 100 breaststroke, also qualifying for states.
The boys 200 freestyle relay “A” team of Thompson, Honaker, Cairns and Wilkes won the event while the “B” team of Tucker Henderson, Kees VanGerven, Bryce Schart and Lucas Birdlebough finished 2nd.
For the girls, Claire Griffith brought home the victory in the 100 and 200 freestyle. The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Jasmin Bane, Izzy Shearer, Adrianna Hall and Griffith won that event. Hall won the 100 backstroke.
Wrapping up the evening in the 400 freestyle relay the boys’ team of Davis Norman, Tucker Henderson, Kees VanGerven and Lucas Birdlebough won the event as did Addie Cockram, Erin Hamilton, Adrianna Hall and Claire Griffith for the girls.
