Radford University is the site of the Region 2C tennis tournaments this week and Glenvar players were involved in team, doubles and singles events.
The boys were set to play in the Region 2C championship on Wednesday against Radford. They opened with a 5-3 win over Patrick County Monday, then downed George Wythe, 5-2, on Tuesday to reach the championship match.
“I’m very happy with how our boys are responding to the challenge,” said Glenvar coach Bob Haynie.
In doubles, Glenvar’s Logan Garner and Connor Wilkes beat the Liberty pair on Tuesday, 6-2, 6-3, and they’ll advance to Thursday’s match against Grayson County’s doubles team. Garner was set to open singles on Wednesday. The Glenvar girls’ team opened with a 5-2 win over Nelson County on Monday, then lost to Floyd County, 6-0, Tuesday and were elimi- nated from the tournament. Natalie McMahon and Rebecca Magruder played Nelson County in doubles Tuesday and won their match, 6-0, 6-2, advancing to Thursday’s doubles match with Radford’s top team.
McMahon is also representing Glenvar in the sin- gles tournament which was set to open Wednesday. Natalie was set to play Shannon Coleman of Appomattox.
