Glenvar’s Addi Cockram(#21) and Zella Hayes throw up a block in Monday’s win over James River.

The Glenvar volleyball team will be at Radford High tonight to play the host Bobcats at 6 pm in the Region 2C semifinals. Glenvar opened region play at home Monday with a three-set win over James River.

Radford also won Monday, defeating Dan River in three sets to improve to 20-1 on the season. Radford has won 19 straight matches since losing to Giles in the last week of August.

Despite that outstanding record Radford is just the second seed in the tournament as Appomattox is 23-1 and the top seed in the tournament. The Raiders opened the region with a win over Patrick County on Monday and will play fourth seeded Gretna tonight in the other region semifinal.

Glenvar is the third seed with an 18-3 record. The Highlanders have won 15 of their last 17 matches but both of the losses have been to Radford. Tonight’s winner will play for the region championship next Tuesday and will clinch a spot in the Class 2 state tournament.

“We are extremely excited to earn the opportunity to go compete in the Region semis and look forward to the opportunity to compete to move onto the finals,” said Glenvar coach Mark Rohrback.

On Monday at Glenvar the Highlanders beat James River 25-19, 25-9 and 25-18. Sophia Hammersley had 11 kills, 17 assists, 11 digs and a pair of aces. Freshman Emily Rohrback had six kills and 19 assists. Macy McMahon had eight kills and 17 digs and Zella Hayes had 13 kills and two aces.

“I was pleased with the performance of every player on the court,” said Rohrback. “James River is a good team and played very well. It took everyone to secure the victory and sweep.”
