Glenvar wins baseball opener

First year Glenvar baseball coach Ben Amos came up a winner in his first game as skipper as the Highlanders won at Grayson County Monday, 13-3.

Glenvar exploded for eight runs in the third inning to break it wide open. The Highlanders hit well with two outs and that was a big difference in the game.

“We scored many of our runs with two outs and we ran the bases very well,” said Amos. “We advanced bases when the cutoffs were missed and when pitches were thrown in the dirt by the pitcher. I try to keep the game as simple as possible and execute the little things. If we can perfect the fundamentals, we can win a lot of our games.”

Austin Meadows picked up the win, going three innings and allowing just one hit. He walked one and struck out three.

“Austin cut down on his walks and was able to get ahead of a lot of his counts, which led to him getting a lot of batters out,” said Amos.

Trip Adams was three for four for the Highlanders and Adam Veverka, Logan Lucas, Alec Thompson and Matthew Pulliam had two hits each.

The Highlanders were back in action Wednesday with a home game against Pulaski County, but results were too late for publication. On Friday Glenvar is at Alleghany and next Monday Covington comes here.
