The new indoor track facility at Roanoke College hosted the Group 1A through 4A track championships last week and both Glenvar and Salem had athletes competing. The Group 1A/2A meet was held February 28 and March 1 and the 3A and 4 A meets were March 2 and 3.
Glenvar’s Kilian McCroskey won the Group 1A/2A 300 meters in with a new state record time of 36.45. He also ran on the sixth place 4×800 relay tea with Peyton Fletcher, Van Hoffman and Dustin Wade.
On the girls’ side, Rachel Millirons took third in the 1,600, running a time of 5:41.10 to edge the fourth place girl by .03 seconds. Rachel also took fifth in the 3,200 meters at 12:37.
The Auburn boys and Maggie Walker girls were team winners. Glenvar’s boys were 13th and the girls were 14th.
Salem’s girls finished tied for eighth in Group 4A. The Spartans and Louisa both scored 25 points as E.C. Glass won the meet with 58 points. William Fleming won the boys’ championship.
The Salem girls had eight participants in nine different events. The top finish was a third in the 55 dash by Janae Blakeney, who ran a time of 7.45. Janae teamed up with Tawni Hunt, Te’asia Thomas and ShaCoya Price to take fifth in the 4×200 at 1:50. Price also place fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
Salem’s Hannah Moran took two places with a fourth in the 1,600 and a fifth in the 3,200. Hannah ran a time of 5:10.87 in the 1,600 and 11:14.59 in the 3,200.
Raniyah Majied also scored for Salem, taking eighth in the 500 meter run.
That wraps up the indoor season for high school athletes. The first spring meet for Salem is April 5th at Patrick Henry, while Glenvar opens on the same day at Auburn.
