High School spring sports are just around the corner and Salem and Glenvar teams will be participating in scrimmages and jamborees in the coming week to get ready for their seasons. Official Virginia High School leagues games, matches and meets begin the week of March 14.
Today, Thursday, the Glenvar baseball team will scrimmage at Patrick Henry at 5 pm. The Salem High softball team will host Roanoke Catholic at 5 pm at the Moyer Complex and the SHS girls’ soccer team is at Franklin County. On Friday the Spartan boys’ soccer team is home to Jefferson Forest at 7 pm.
Salem will host a baseball Jamboree on Saturday at Kiwanis Field. Action begins at 10 am with Salem against Northside, followed by Pulaski County and Northside at noon. Pulaski will stay on the field to meet William Byrd at 2 pm, followed by the Spartans against Byrd at 4 pm to close out the day. Also on Saturday, Salem’s girls’ lacrosse team will be at Rockbridge County and on Monday the girls will host Virginia Episcopal at 5:30 pm.
Tuesday is a big day for Glenvar sports. The girls’ soccer team will host Bassett at 5 pm and the boys’ soccer team is at Cave Spring at 7 pm. The Highlanders will host Bassett in softball at 5 pm and both Glenvar tennis teams will take on Staunton River, with the boys at home and the girls in Moneta. Also on Tuesday, Salem’s boys’ soccer team will be at Northside for a 7 pm scrimmage and the girls are here to take on the Vikings, also at 7 pm.
Next Wednesday you won’t want to miss a scrimmage between the Salem and Glenvar baseball teams at Kiwanis Field at 5 pm. The same two bordering schools will meet in softball at Glenvar at 5 pm and the Salem boys’ lacrosse team will host Virginia Episcopal at 7 pm at Spartan Field.
A week from today, on Thursday March 10, Salem’s tennis teams will battle Lord Botetourt. The boys will be home and the girls will be at Hollins University to take on LB.
The final day of the preseason will be Friday, March 11, and it’s all Glenvar against William Byrd. The Highlanders will host the Terriers in boys’ tennis at 4:30 pm and boys’ soccer at 7 pm. Meanwhile, in Vinton, Byrd will host the girls’ tennis team at 4:30 pm, the softball team at 5 pm and the girls’ soccer team in the evening.
