Logan Lucas homered in the top of the eighth and Cody Alexander held the host Buffaloes in the bottom of the inning as Glenvar squeeked out a 3-2 baseball win at Floyd County Tuesday.
The Highlanders trailed 2-0 after six innings, but rallied to score twice in the top of the seventh. Tripp Adams and Alexander knocked in runs to tie the game.
Alexander came on to pitch the bottom of the seventh and retired the Buffs to send the game into extra innings and set up Lucas to be the hero. Ryan Butler pitched the first four and a third innings and Hunter Phlegar relieved in the fifth and pitched the sixth.
With the win Glenvar improved to 10-6 on the season and snapped a two game losing streak. Last Wednesday the Highlanders dropped a 4-3 decision to Staunton River. Butler pitched the first five innings and too the loss and Ryan had two hits at the plate, as did Alexander.
On Friday the Highlanders lost a close one at home to Alleghany, 7-5. With that result the Mountaineers clinched the top spot in the Three Rivers District standings.
Alexander started this one and allowed just two earned runs before he was relieved by Phlegar. Adam Veverka had two hits and Cameron Wiley drove in two runs.
Glenvar is back on the diamond today at Radford, followed by a road trip to Giles on Friday.
