The high school track season got underway last week as Lord Botetourt hosted a four-team meet. County rival James River, Glenvar and Alleghany joined the Cavaliers on the Daleville oval.
Botetourt’s girls edged James River, 76-75, to take first place. Glenvar’s girls had 54 points and Alleghany was fourth with 19.
In the boys’ meet LB dominated with 107 points, and River was second with 63. Glenvar was third with 48 points and Alleghany had 26.
“Both our boys and girls did really well and we were all happy to have some warm weather for a change,” said Glenvar coach Neil Swanson.
The highlights for the girls included Terrica Moorman with a first in the High Jump and second in the 300 hurdles. Rachel Millirions was second in the 3200 and Brooke Wright was second in the 100 hurdles. Also, Logan Dunkenberger was second in the 100 and 200 and Kyra King was second in the 400. Glenvar’s girls 4×100 relay team consisting of Morgan Batey, Wright, Moorman, and Dunkenberger took first place.
For the boys, Jack Leonard was first in the 300 hurdles and Kilian McCroskey won the 400. Mitch Winters was second in the Shot Put and the boys’ 4×400 relay, consisting of Dustin Wade, Brady Loder, Leonard, and McCroskey, took first.
The Highlanders are off this week, returning Wednesday with a meet against Floyd, followed by the All American Relays on Friday, April 13th, at Radford High.
Salem has yet to have a meet. The Spartans first action will be this Saturday at the “Colonel Classic” at William Fleming High School.
