The Glenvar softball team jumped all over Giles pitching Tuesday night for a 22-2 slaughter rule win in Pearisburg. Glenvar had 19 hits in the game.
Courtney Raines had a big game for the Highlanders. She pitched the first three innings to pick up the win and also had four hits, including three doubles, while driving in two and scoring four times. Katherine Ward pitched the last two innings for Glenvar.
Also adding to the hit parade were Lydia Taylor with three hits and three runs scored, McKenna Jarvis with three hits and five driven in, McKenzie Pulliam with three hits and Maddie Martinez with her first varsity home run.
With the win Glenvar improved to 5-3 overall. The win over a Three Rivers District opponent was welcome after the Highlanders dropped two games to district teams last week.
On Wednesday of last week the Highlanders lost at Carroll County, 8-7. Glenvar had 8 players getting at least one hit in the game with Lydia Taylor, McKenna Jarvis, Jamie Burton and Olivia Adams each having two hits.
On Friday at Floyd the Highlanders were no-hit at Floyd, 10-0 in six innings. Olivia Yates didn’t allow a single hit to Glenvar’s strong lineup.
“We put the bat on the ball and had several good hits, but it was just one of those games when you hit the ball, but directly to someone defensively,” said GHS coach Lonnie Raines.
The Highlanders were scheduled to play at Northside Tuesday, and Friday the girls are at Covington.
