Glenvar High runners competed in a huge event last Saturday as Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville hosted the VA XC Showcase 2025 cross country meet. The event included runners from over 250 schools coming from the New England states, the deep south and everywhere in between.
Glenvar High claimed the boys’ small schools team championship, amassing 131 team points. Leading the charge for Glenvar was senior Tyler Davis, who secured a 7th-place finish overall with a time of 16:44.10. The team’s championship was cemented by strong performances from fellow scorers Aldin Smith (15th), freshman Zachary Elijah Davis (24th), Asher Faught (38th), and Evan Harris (54th). Their impressive 17:20 average time and a tight 1-minute, 8-second split between their top five runners were key to their victory.
The Glenvar High School girls’ team placed 24th overall in a deep and talented field. The team was led by senior Anna Hall, who finished 57th with a time of 21:58.60. The Highlanders’ scoring was rounded out by Everly Shanks (72nd), Rayya Bryson (83rd), Genna Shanks (202nd), and Kamryn Hill (270th).
Middle Schooler Jaxson Kuzmich also had a standout performance, securing an impressive third-place finish with a time of 13:19.70. The race featured a strong contingent of independent runners from across Virginia. Among them was 8th grader Matthew Brennan, who finished 59th with a solid time of 15:40.70.
“The strong showing from these Glenvar athletes highlighted the depth of young talent in the state,” said Glenvar coach James Osborne.
The Highlanders were scheduled to run in the Three Rivers District championship at Greenfield Recreation Park in Daleville Tuesday but results were too late for publication. The Region 2C meet is also at Greenfield next Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Salem was scheduled to run in the annual Metro Cross Country race in Blacksburg Wednesday. The River Ridge does not have a district meet and Salem’s next event will be the Region 4D meet at Millbrook High School next Wednesday, Oct. 29. The girls’ run at noon with the boys to follow.
