The Andrew Lewis Middle School football team turned the tables on Read Mountain last week with a 56-14 win in Cloverdale. Lewis lost to Read Mountain last year, 48-6, and the Starz hadn’t lost a game since 2015.
Last week the Starz ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but from there it was all Lewis. The Wolverines scored 30 unanswered points in the first quarter alone and rolled to an impressive win.
The Wolvernes led by the strong performance from the offensive line of Addison Wolfe, Cameron Martindale, Stacy Williams, Sam Jones, George Copeland and Will Hicks. Jeffrey Phillips threw two touchdown passes to Hunter Bayne while Cam Leftwich ran for two scores.
A great special teams play was made by Jake Massey when he blocked a punt and Martindale ran it in for a score. Other touchdowns were scored by Kyman Kinney and Jeffrey Phillips.
The team plays Hidden Valley on Thursday at home with a quick turnaround game against Christiansburg on Monday on the road. The seventh grade team will host Craig County on Monday.
