There is family, and then there is “family.” Many people have their bloodline family and then they have their church family. When the two meet, fun happens.
On September 19, Lighthouse Baptist Church hosted a fall luau and seemingly invited anyone they came in contact with. It was mainly for the kids to enjoy an evening of fun and games and get outside to play.
However, a pig was roasted, and the best BBQ was served, along with all the fixins’ of country cooks like deviled eggs, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, scalloped potatoes and much more.
“Desserts were the bomb,” said one man after finishing his homemade blackberry cobbler with a side of chocolate cake. Luau games were the center attraction and the kids made sure they put grass skirts and lei’s around their parents’ necks.
Laughter from the kids as well as the adults permeated the country fresh air. Jokes were told (some out loud), and people seemed to enjoy the calmness of the wide-open farmland.
A huge fireplace was set in the center to provide a little extra warmth in the evening coolness as well as a peaceful ambiance. Many conversations took place around it as people started getting closer as the evening got cooler.
Just like anything, it always takes a “village” to put a nice outing together, and this event was no different. There were people who were organizing the games with the kids, those who fixed the foods and drinks and others who did the outside tasks and keeping the fire going by, “putting another log on the fire.”
“I am so glad we came,” one couple shared as they talked with friends while their children were playing.
Shouted several children, “We are having so much fun.” As the evening closed in, Pastor Lee Looney shared a word from the Bible and the evening ended in peace and love.
