Masks, tiaras, long gowns and fancy suits with corsages and boutonnieres abounded on an evening of music and fun at the Joseph C. Thomas Center on May 3.
The elegant evening with a theme of “A Night in Disguise” was planned by Friendship-Richfield Living Activities Director Beverly Adams and staff, with help from families and friends.
The residents were thrilled to dress up, dance and talk with Glenvar Football players and to eat a sumptuous spread – complete with black and white mask cookies – prepared by Richfield chefs and others, and served by young people.
A photo booth captured people having fun in the midst of silver, gold and black balloons.
Ruth Custer was crowned Queen, and Jim Cowan King. Other royal residents in the running were McCoy Garrison and Chris Kerfoot, Terry Cole, Betty Mann, Anna Ellis and Laura Stover.
Even walkers and wheelchairs didn’t stop the dancing, dubbed the Cupid Shuffle. Music was provided by a DJ.

Football players who took part that night not only danced with residents but also formed a conga line to YMCA and other rousing songs. Resident Leon was in the midst of the line.
“It’s fun. I like meeting new people,” said Jackson Hartman.”
Jacob Campbell, a sophomore linebacker on the GHS team, said he enjoyed the event and making residents happy, as he danced with resident Ruth Custer of Salem.
Resident Ramona Howell’s smiles stretched from ear to ear. She took a turn holding staff member Linda Hefner’s granddaughter, 3-month-old Niomi, who was there with her mom, Chloe.
“The party was so nice,” said Ramona.
Families and people from the community provided dresses, suits and other finery.
