The Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament is just a week away and the Roanoke College team is on the bubble. The top eight teams in the 12 team conference make the post-season tournament and the Maroons were tied for eighth with two games to go.
Roanoke and Lynchburg both had 5-9 records prior to Wednesday’s games, when the Maroons were scheduled to play at Lynchburg. A win would move the Maroons into eighth place with both teams playing on Saturday, RC at home against 11-3 Randolph-Macon and Lynchburg at 0-14 Eastern Mennonite. If Roanoke and Lynchburg end up tied for the eighth spot it would go to a tie-breaker as the two teams would have split during the regular season if the Maroons won Wednesday.
The ODAC tournament opens at the sites of the top four schools on Wednesday, February 25. Washington & Lee, Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon are one, two and three with Guilford and Shenandoah tied for the fourth spot. The ODAC semifinals and finals are at the Salem Civic Center on February 28 and March 1.
Roanoke is 11-12 overall after splitting two games at home last week. The Maroons beat Averett, 63-48, but lost to Shenandoah University on Saturday, 71-61. Nadia Snesarev and Mariah Cain had 11 points each to lead RC against Shenandoah while Cecilia Robinson had nine rebounds.
