The Roanoke College women’s soccer team improved to 7-3-1 on the season with a 7-0 shutout win at Sweet Briar on Tuesday.
The Maroons led 2-0 at the half, then peppered the Sweet Briar net in the second half for five goals. Lucy Perry and Caelan DeMuth had two goals each for RC. Caroline Thomas had to make 25 saves for Sweet Briar while the RC defense held the home team to no shots for the game.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Maroons. Last Saturday in Salem a second-half goal from Kathryn Van Orden lifted Roanoke to a 1-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan as the Maroons remained undefeated in conference play.
Van Orden found the back of the net with a header off a cross from Kylie Bruce to score what proved to be the game-winner with 20 minutes left in regulation. Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Maroons, 12-10, but Chris Martin made four saves for RC in 81 minutes net while Caroline Liebel didn’t have to make any saves in her nine minutes in net.
Roanoke is back home Saturday to host Shenandoah for “Senior Day” at 2 pm. Among the honored will be senior defender Shannon Dishaw from Salem.
