David Hobson Meggs, Jr., 75, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and formerly of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4.
David was a Veteran who served 23 years in the US Navy, four of which as a SEAL and all as a photographer. He loved to hunt, fish and camp in his spare time, and adored his English Setter.
Preceding him in death were his parents, David and Trudie Meggs; daughter, Kathy Myers; and siblings, Carolyn Phillips and John Paul Meggs.
His surviving family includes his wife of 45 years, Sandra Combs Meggs; daughter, Teresa Meggs; grandchildren, Thomas Owens, Crystal Olivo, Raymond Olivo, and Jonathan Rogers; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donald Meggs, Linda Gable, Ray Meggs and Carl Meggs.
Special thanks are extended to the Massey Cancer Center at VCU for its medical care during the past several years.
Family members and friends gathered from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the Salem Wesleyan Church at 424 Chamberlain Lane. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dave Vanderpool, then began at 2 p.m. Interment with military funeral honors immediately followed at Sherwood Memorial Park.
