Member One FCU recently presented two college-bound high school seniors with a total of $6,500 in college scholarships.
The two scholarships are annually awarded to high school seniors who will be attending a Virginia college or university after graduation.
The Richard L. “Dick” Williams Memorial Scholarship was named for Member One’s first president and CEO who served for more than 35 years. In addition to his outstanding work for Member One in our community, he had a passion for sports, especially at the high school level. Member One is proud to honor Mr. William’s dedication to education, competitive sports, and philanthropy with this scholarship. Through the generous support of the Williams family, the award will assist a student athlete to further his or her education at a four-year Virginia school.
The 2017 recipient of the Richard L. “Dick” Williams Memorial Scholarship of $5,000 is Hannah Nicole Moran. Hannah will be graduating from Salem High School this year and plans to attend the University of Virginia in the fall.
The Henry Lee Memorial Scholarship, formally known as the Member One Scholarship, was established in 2008. This scholarship was renamed for a past recipient of the scholarship, Henry Lee, who was tragically killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.
Member One is pleased to make a contribution to the education of bright students like Hannah, while honoring the lives of Dick Williams and Henry Lee. Putting people before profits isn’t just a slogan; it’s Member One’s philosophy.
