NCAA Women’s Division III basketball championship is at Cregger Center this week

The Cregger Center at Roanoke College in Salem will be site of the NCAA Division III women’s bas-ketball championships this weekend. Semifinals will be Thursday evening and the championship game is set for 4 pm on Saturday.

The 64 team field is now down to four. New York University will take on Wisconsin-Stout at 5 pm Thursday at RC followed by Smith College of Massachusetts against Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 7:30 pm. NYU is the defending Division III champion after defeating Smith in the championship game in Columbus, Ohio last season, 51-41. That completed an undefeated season for NYU at 31-0.

NYU is undefeated once again at 29-0 and has now won 60 straight games. The ladies from New York defeated Gettysburg, 76-51, to reach the Final Four.

Smith College comes in at 30-2 on the season while Wisc-Oshkosh is 27-4 and Wisc-Stout is 23-7.
