On Tuesday, May 21, 120 scholarships were awarded to Salem High School seniors at the annual Community Scholarship Night. Students, parents and family members were all smiles for the ceremony that featured nearly $200,000 in grants, lots of fellowship, music by the high school’s jazz band and food prepared by the school’s culinary arts students. Since 1984, the Salem Education Foundation has given Salem High School students over $4.5 million dollars in college assistance. In 40 years since the school division was founded, the endowment has reached $6 million, according to officials. The Salem Sports Foundation and the Chance Crawford Foundation also honored some of Salem’s graduating seniors with grant money during the ceremony. -The Salem Times-Register
