This week’s football contest was about as close as you can get, and when the smoke cleared Warren Goin came out on top.
The contest wasn’t decided until the Redskins game against Kansas City was over on Monday night. Had the Redskins won Lukous Schultz would have been the winner by virtue of his picking 56 points as the high total for the tie-breaker. The correct total was 55 by Salem.
When Kansas City won, Schultz was eliminated and several others who picked Kansas City tied with three losses. Goin had 53 points as high point total and Curtis Farris had 58, so Goin was one point closer. If the Houston Texans(57 points against Tennessee) game had been on the contest or Salem had scored one more point, Farris would have won. And in the Salem game the second string kicker tried the final conversion and missed after Nate Craft was successful on the first seven. Anyway, we’re just glad you’re still with us, Curtis.
For his win Goin will receive the $50 gift certificate from Mac & Bob’s, a sub from Joe’s Deli, a gift certificate from Awful Arthur’s and a cap from Sportsman’s Warehouse. Nice Goin, Warren.
For our “One for the Road” contest I asked you to pick the winner of the Tech-Clemson game, along with the score. Danny Webb smoked that one by hitting the score right on the nose, 31-17 in favor of Clemson. He’ll get an atlas from Hettie Barnes at State Farm.
For this week’s “One for the Road” give me your prediction for the big Dallas-Green Bay game Sunday. Tell me the score, and for the tie-breaker who will pass for more yards, Aaron Rodgers or Dak Prescott, and how many?
That should be a good one. It’s a rematch of the “Ice Bowl” game in December of 1967 when Bart Starr snuck over to beat Dallas, 21-17, in the NFL championship game.
It won’t be as cold this Sunday but it should still be a good game. –Brian Hoffman
