The Glenvar volleyball team had an off night Tuesday at Northside, losing to the Vikings in three sets. The Highlanders fell 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21 after defeating the Vikings when they played at Glenvar on August 24.
“We didn’t have a good practice on Monday and it carried over to our match on Tuesday,” said Glenvar coach Basil Conner. “We embarrassed them when they played here, and they were ready for us.”
Glenvar was handled the first two sets, then went down by 10 in the third before rallying to make a game of it. But it was too little, too late.
“We finally decided to play about halfway through the third set,” said Conner.
Kiera Omberg led the Highlanders with 10 kills and Allison Clark h ad 16 assists.
Last Thursday at GHS the Highlanders beat William Byrd in four sets. After losing the first set, 25-22, Glenvar won the next three in a row, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-22. Clark led Glenvar with 24 assists and five kills while Hannah Green had 14 kills and seven aces.
The Highlanders are back home tonight to host Covington, and Monday they return the trip to William Byrd for a rematch of Roanoke County teams. Then, on Tuesday, Glenvar will host Carroll County.
The Highlanders are now 3-2 and have only played one school of a classification equal or lower. Glenvar is 2A and they’ve played 3A Northside twice, splitting, and 4A Blacksburg and Byrd, losing to Blacksburg but beating Byrd. They play two more 4A teams next week in Byrd and Carroll County.
“We have a tough schedule,” said Conner. “But we can play with these teams.”
