Phil Brown’s desire to help others started long before he graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 2016. Born in Vero Beach, Florida, Brown’s parents, Patricia and Lee, made sure that he and his younger brother Patrick were well-rounded growing up. Early on, Brown knew what hard work and compassion looked like. Patrick was born with cerebral palsy and Phil has always taken pride in helping his parents take care of him.
After graduating from Vero Beach High in 2008, Brown continued his studies at Indian River State College for three years before transferring to the University of South Florida where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. He furthered his education by attending the Palmer Chiropractic College in Florida in 2013.
“I have always known I wanted to help people. The medical model never appealed to me so I initially wanted to get into research. After a few years of college though, I realized that I wouldn’t be happy doing that. After juggling different options my father mentioned chiropractic as a career path,” Brown said. “The central tenets of chiropractic resonated with me so I started to look into how I could start to move down this path.”
Dr. Nathan Tuck opened the first Southwest Virginia clinic in 1979, beginning a long legacy of quality chiropractic care. His son, Dr. Ray Tuck followed in his footsteps and eventually took on the oversight of Tuck Chiropractic Clinics. Like Dr. Ray Tuck, many of the current doctors are second-generation chiropractors too.
Brown joined Tuck and took over the chiropractic office near Brandon Oaks in June. On September 28, Brown, a Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce member, had his grand opening. Among the people who attended were Salem Mayor Renee Turk.
“The chamber is excited to welcome Dr. Brown to the local business community and is thankful for businesses like Tuck Chiropractic who give back to the community,” Chamber Executive Director Beth Bell said. “Dr. Brown has only been in the area a few months and he immediately connected with our chamber, chamber non-profits and others to see how they could help with challenges related to COVID-19. We wish him a ton of success and will be here to support him in any way we can.”
As a Doctor of Chiropractor, Brown’s responsibilities consist of treating patients, managing the office and marketing. Tuck Chiropractic has a long history, said Brown, of walking alongside people in their health journeys and empowering them to accomplish their goals. To date, Brown estimates that he has served more than 750 patients.
“I hope that I can make a successful practice that brings health and happiness to as many people as possible,” Brown said. “We believe that all people deserve to live healthy and pain-free.”
