The Roanoke College field hockey team will wrap up the regular season this week with two games on the road. The Maroons are at Ferrum Wednesday and at Randolph-Macon on Sautrday.
Last Saturday the RC women concluded their home season with a 7-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan at Kerr Stadium in Salem. With the victory the Maroons got back on the winning side of the ledger at 8-7 overall and evened their ODAC record at 3-3.
Just minutes into the game Emilee Wooten scored off an assist from Grace Vernarelli for an early RC advantage. Just past the half-way point of the opening quarter, the Marlins tied the game at 1-1.
One of the Maroon’s 12 Penalty Corners would see the Maroons re-take the lead. Hope Keller triggered the corner and sent a pass to Wooten who found Martha Hurley for a return pass to Keller for the score
Just 35 seconds into the second half, Lindsey Keyes made it 3-0. Abby McCusker scored a pair of goals in a two-minute stretch, giving the home team a 5-1 lead after three quarters. In the fourth period, Hannah Bunten and Emily Gabrielian wrapped up the scoring as the Maroons cruised to a 7-1 ODAC win.
In goal, Madison Wingerter picked up her fifth win of the season, recording one save.
