The Roanoke College men’s soccer team has scored five goals in the last five games. Unfortunately they were all in the same game as the Maroons went 1-4 over that stretch, getting shut out in the other four games.

Last Wednesday in Lynchburg the Maroons snapped a six game losing streak with a 5-1 win over Randolph College. Just four minutes into the game Roanoke won a pair of corners. Ed Law whipped in the second of those corners and found Will Fatzinger on the back post to take the lead. Then 35 minutes later Ryan Pidgeon earned a free kick in the attacking third. Justin Hill sent in a ball that was flicked on by Chase Rubincam but was saved by the keeper. However, the ball was not held onto to, and Lucas Pace finished from close range.

The Maroons took advantage of another free kick opportunity in the 62nd minute. Hill put a ball over the top that deflected off the head of a Randolph defender and past the keeper’s near post. Randolph cut the lead to 3-1 but the Maroons won going away with goals by Pidgeon and Kyle Butcher.

Last Saturday Roanoke was back home to host Hampden-Sydney and dropped a 2-0 decision at Kerr Stadium. With the loss the Maroons fell to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in ODAC games.

Roanoke was scheduled to host the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night at RC. On Saturday they head to Virginia Beach to meet Virginia Wesleyan.
