The Roanoke College men’s soccer team saw the season come to a disappointing end when the Maroons lost in the first round of the ODAC tournament. Second seeded Roanoke fell to seventh seeded Randolph College, 2-1, at Kerr Stadium in Salem Saturday night.
Randolph got on the board off a penalty kick from Adam Watson at the 31-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead into the half. RC had a chance to tie the game in the 40th minute but Cole Thorton’s header following a free kick hit the cross-bar stayed out of the net.
Just 11 minutes into the second half, Watson scored again off a header to make it a 2-0 game. Roanoke closed the gap with a penalty kick from Tim Mahabir at 62:07, but the Wildcats held on for the win.
Nick Tadros made one save on the night as the Maroons held an 11-8 edge in shots. Both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Roanoke closed the 2017 season with an overall record of 13-5-1 record, and Randolph advanced to second round play in the ODAC tournament. The semifinals and finals will be held at top-seeded Lynchburg College on Saturday and Sunday.
