The Roanoke College women were eliminated from the ODAC soccer tournament with a 2-1 loss to Lynchburg in Virginia Beach Saturday. The match was in the semifinal round of the conference tournament.
Lynchburg came in as the second seed in the tourney while Roanoke was third.
The match was scoreless after the first half of play and into the 56th minute when Rachel Cooke set up Kennedy Jakubek for the first goal of the game. The Hornets doubled their advantage less than four minutes later when Georgie Duggan took a pass from Emily Maxell and scored to make it 2-0 at the 59:29 mark.
Roanoke was able to get on the board in the 87th minute when Ellie Schad assisted Tori Young on a goal to make it a 2-1 contest, but the Maroons couldn’t get even as time expired.
The Maroons, who beat Randolph-Macon, 2-0, in the quarterfinals, finished the season at 11-7-2. It marked the 10th time in the past 12 years the Maroons have won 10 or more games.
Lynchburg went on to beat Bridgewater in the ODAC championship game Sunday.
