After losing their first three games of the 2024 Carolina
League season at home, the Red Sox went on the road last week
and turned things around. Salem won five of six games over the
Delmarva Shorebirds in Maryland and returned home with a 6-4
record to face the Lynchburg Hillcats this week.
The current homestand opened on Tuesday and will go through
Sunday. The Sox dropped the opener to Lynchburg, 11-4, and
had a Wednesday day game that was too late for press deadlines. Salem will play at 7:05 pm tonight and Friday, 6:05 pm
on Saturday and finish the homestand with a 3:05 pm game on
Sunday afternoon. Tonight is College Night, Friday is School
Spirit Night with post-game fireworks and Saturday is “Bark in
the Park,” with dogs welcome.
Salem won their first five games in a row at Delmarva.
Tuesday through Friday scores were 5-2, 9-5, 8-4 and 4-2 in
Salem’s favor, and last Saturday the Sox shut out the Birds, 6-0.
Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz, Trennor O’Donnell and Dennis Reguill
combined for a three-hitter, striking out 14 and walking only two.
Rodriguez-Cruz fanned seven in the first for innings.
Offensively, Jhostynxon Garcia had three hits and two runs
batted for the Sox. He also stole his sixth base in the first eight
games and scored three runs.
The Sox saw their winning streak come to an end on Sunday as
the Shorebirds averted a sweep with a 4-1 win.
