Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded at 3:14 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 to the 900 block of Givens Tyler Road, in the Ft. Lewis area of Roanoke County, for the report of a residential structure fire.
Wagon 9 (Ft. Lewis) arrived to find heavy smoke and fire from the rear of a residential structure, according to the Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department.
Three people and one dog were at home at the time of the fire. One occupant was injured but refused to be treated. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes. The homeowners were not displaced.
The fire destroyed an outdoor shed and damaged the house as well. The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office reports that the fire was caused by an outdoor woodstove and the estimated damage is $40,000.
