The Roanoke County School Board has named Michael Riley as the new Director of Secondary Instruction, effective July 1. Riley replaces James Soltis who accepted a position with Salem City Schools.
Riley has served as the principal at Hidden Valley Middle School since 2012 and was assistant principal at HVMS from 2006-2012. He joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 1996 as a chemistry teacher at Cave Spring High School.
Riley holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Marshall University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Radford University.
“Mike has demonstrated outstanding leadership as an assistant principal and principal at Hidden Valley Middle School for 13 years.” said Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ken Nicely. “Under his leadership, HVMS was redesignated for a third time as a School to Watch. I’m pleased he will continue that leadership role as he moves to our central office as the director of secondary instruction,” Nicely said.
