The Roanoke College field hockey team is 8-1 after nine games and 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
Last Saturday in SalemFiona Dougan scored with three minutes left in double-overtime to lift Roanoke a 2-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan. Dougan scored the game-winner off a pass from Kelsey Martin in the 96th minute to give Roanoke the win.
The Maroons scored first in the contest as Rebecca Schmidt found the back of the cage off a pass from Lauren Heffron to give RC a 1-0 lead 13 minutes in. The score would stay that way through the intermission before Virginia Wesleyan evened to contest with a goal from Hunter Majewski, following a corner, assisted from Taylor Wilhelm at the 49-minute mark.
RC registered 28 shots while VWU had 17. Emma Clark made 10 for the Maroons, including five in the overtime periods.
The Maroons were scheduled to play at Sweet Briar Wednesday, but results were too late for publication. On Saturday RC will host Shenandoah at 5 pm at Kerr Stadium on the RC campus.
