The Roanoke College volleyball season is over, but not before the Maroons gave Virginia Wesleyan all they could handle. The Maroons lost a five set match to the Marlins in the ODAC quarterfinals in Virginia Beach last Wednesday.
Roanoke was the sixth seed, going up against third seeded Virginia Wesleyan. Every set was within three points as the Marlins pulled out the win, 23-25, 25-22, 26-28, 30-28 and 15-12.
Meagan Smith had 18 kills for RC, while Sydney Daniel and Alex Wolfe each had 14. Christen Zammit had 55 assists. Kylah Blackmore had nine kills to go along with 30 digs. Olivia Earls had 38 digs for the Maroons as well.
Roanoke College seniors Kylah Blackmore and Ryan Hedgpeth were named to the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Volleyball All-Conference Team on Saturday evening. Blackmore earns her second straight all-league accolade, while Hedgpeth receives her second consecutive third-team honor.
Roanoke finished the season with a 9-16 record. Randolph-Macon won the ODAC championship with a five set win over Washington & Lee in the championship match.
