The Region D lacrosse championships are scheduled to be played this week and Salem will host the boys’ championship tonight at 7 pm.

Salem reached the final with an 18-2 win over Blacksburg in a steady rain at Salem’s Spartan Field Tuesday. With the win the Spartans improved their record to 13-3 overall.

The Salem boys will host Jefferson Forest tonight for the region crown. The Cavaliers defeated E.C. Glass on Tuesday to earn a spot in the championship against Salem. The Spartans defeated Jefferson Forest in Salem on April 1st, 14-7.

The Salem boys ended the regular season with a 23-0 win over Blacksburg at Spartan Field last week. Holden Custer had six goals for Salem, Jackson Jones and Parker Dallas had three each and scoring twice were Ronnie Frith, Ty Hicklin and Ethan Russell. Custer and Tucker Preas had three assists each.

Girls Season Ends with Loss to Bruins in Region Semis

The girls were at Blacksburg for their semifinal game Tuesday and lost to the top-seeded Bruins, 14-12. It was the exact same score that the Spartans lost to the Bruins by two weeks on May 14, also in Blacksburg.

With the loss the Salem girls end their season with an 8-7 overall record. Blacksburg improved to 15-1 with the win and the Bruins will host the Region D championship game against an opponent yet to be determined at press time.
