Local firefighters, city officials, police, members of the sheriff’s office and employees at the courthouse gathered last Wednesday morning in front of the 9/11 Memorial in Downtown Salem to pay special tribute to the fallen on the 23rd anniversary of the 2001 Sept. 11 attacks.
Located on Market Street in front of Fire Sation 1, the memorial serves as a reminder of those who perished during the attacks.
Salem Fire and EMS Chief John Prillaman led the program that featured reading aloud the names of the 343 firefighters who perished that day and the 71 law enforcement officers who lost their lives. The reading was done by various first responders and it was followed by a prayer and a quiet dismissal.
