At its Oct. 28 meeting, Salem City Council set a $115,122 erosion and sediment control bond for Phase I of Roanoke College’s Science Center.
Council also set a $4,640 bond for Bojangles’ drive-through improvements. The restaurant is located at 1590 W. Main St.
The vote was unanimous, 5-0, with member Randy Foley participating remotely.
Council also held a public hearing and appointed road viewers on a request to vacate a 1.9 acre dead-end street next to Carter Machinery. The vote was 4-0 with one abstention by Mayor Renee Turk. She recused herself because she has a relative involved, she said.
Vice Mayor Jim Wallace presided over that item. Attorney Phoebe Brannock of Gentry Locke told Council the industry leaders want to close the street so the land can be used for expansion.
In other items, Council welcomed Troop 51 Scout Gabe Hill and his Scout Leader, Stewart Hill who is also Gabe’s father, to the meeting. Gabe explained he is working to fill a requirement to advance from Tenderfoot.
Council went into a closed session at 7 p.m. to discuss with legal counsel, and discuss acquisition or disposal of public property. The other matter was to discuss School Board appointments.
Mayor Turk said no action was expected that night.
