Salem girls are sixth out of 20 teams at A-A Relays

The Salem High track team opened the outdoor season last week with two meets. The Spartans competed in a five team meet at Cave Spring and also ran in the All American Relays at Radford High School on Friday.

The girls’ team finished second at Cave Spring and event winners included Raniyah Majied in the 200, Janae Blakeney in the 400, Emma Chamberland in the 3200, ShaCoya Price in the long jump and Selma Marunica in the discus. First place relays were the 4×800 with Madison Baxley, Sarah Ahlers, Samantha Richardson and Carolina Bowen and the 4×400 with Majied, McKenzie Moran, Blakeney and Kristy Cummings.

On Friday at the All American Relays the girls finished sixth out of 20 schools. Point winners included the 4×400 relay of Majied, Blakeney, Moran  and Briana Gravely, who took first.The 4×800 relay with Bowen, Chamberland, Gravely and Majied was third and the distance Medley team of Majied, Gravely, Blakeney  and ShaCoya Price finished fourth. Price was also second in the 100 and Selma Marunica was third in the discus.

For the boys, Jeremiah Wilson was second in the 110 High Hurdles at Radford and the Sprint Medley Relay team of Logan Boettcher, Jayden McDonald, Jorden McDonald and Christian Crawley placed sixth.

Salem had a home meet Wednesday, and the Spartans are in Vinton for a meet this Saturday on the new track at William Byrd High School.
