Did you know that you could learn a lot about a British soldier in the Revolutionary War just from his uniform?
For example, these buttons show that the wearer served in the 23rd Regiment of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. These were British soldiers that fought in many important battles throughout the Revolutionary War.
You can see this button and other uniform pieces this weekend at the Salem Museum during Hands-On History Saturday.
Homeschool students ages five and up can learn more next week at Salem Museum Homeschool Days. On Feb. 21, students will learn more about Colonial Virginia. They will learn about the founding of our country, colonial life, and surprising local connections to the Revolutionary War.
At Homeschool Days, students will learn interesting stories from our past, and get to hold pieces of history in their hand. Each program will include an hour of hands-on history instruction, group discussions, and a scavenger hunt to encourage exploration of the Salem Museum’s exhibits. The schedule is designed to give participants an opportunity to get to know other students.
The program will be held on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. RSVP in advance is required. Please call 540-389-6760 or email garrett@salemmuseum.org to register.
