In honor of Memorial Day coming up, the Salem Museum wants to highlight an important and interesting item from the Korean War that is in their collection.

Pictured is a jacket patch from the “Mosquitos,” or the 6147th Tactical Air Control Group.  This squadron was tasked with reconnaissance missions, flying low over enemy territory to identify important targets. The “Mosquitoes” were an integrated squadron comprised of highly skilled pilots who executed these dangerous missions behind enemy lines.

This particular patch belonged to a local soldier named Percy Hubbard.

You can learn more about the Korean War and the “Mosquitos,” and see this patch on display, now at the Salem Museum.  Visit the Museum to see the new display: “Korea: The Forgotten War.”

The Salem Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and located at 801 E. Main St.
