During their Tuesday, Nov. 11 meeting, Salem School Board members recognized the 2024-25 Delphi Magazine staff, sponsor Rachel Wurster, and recently retired sponsor Fred Campbell for winning the Col. Charles E. Savedge Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholastic Journalism.
Delphi was one of just six schools nationwide to receive the honor, marking the fourth consecutive time the publication has been recognized. To earn the award, a school must achieve at least five Trophy Class awards within seven years.
Last year’s edition, Currents, also received several state awards, including a Trophy Class rating, third-best cover in the state for the design by Sidney Poarch, second place in the state for a fiction piece by Clara Gunter, and first place in the state for poetry awarded to Cora Nielson.
The senior editorial team for the 2024-25 staff was Myah Crews, Sidney Poarch, and Clara Gunter. Other staff members included Chase Atkinson, Kendra Biel, Brenasha Devlin, Josephine Gray, Andrea Greenway, Charlie Hickson, Riley Justus, Leah Roe, Lori Lowry, Cora Nielson, Quinn Roudebush and Mason Stavola.
