The William Fleming track was the site of the 53rd annual Cosmopolitan Track Meet last weekend as over 20 high schools and many middle schools sent athletes to compete. Salem and Glenvar High and Andrew Lewis and Glenvar Middle Schools all competed in the meet.
In the Senior Division the Salem girls finished second to Patrick Henry, as the Patriots dominated the meet. PH had 126 ½ points to 64 for the Spartans, and Blacksburg was third with 54.
Salem had several firsts, as Janae Blakeney won the 100, Mia Cromer won the high jump and ShaCoya Price was first in the long jump and second in the triple. Selma Marunica took second in the discus and Salem’s 4×800 relay team of Raniyah Majied, Samantha Richardson, Sarah Ahlers and Alexandra Abbott took a second.
Glenvar’s girls were 12th in the Senior Division. Rachel Millirons was third in the 1600, Logan Dunkenberger was fourth in the 200 and Abby Cairns was fifth in the 400.
The Glenvar boys were 11th in the Senior Division as Kilian McCroskey took a second in the 400. Dustin Wade took third in the 800 and Jack Leonard was fifth in the 300 Hurdles. The Cave Spring boys were team winners.
Salem’s boys did not score in the Senior Division but took eighth in the Junior Division, including a first place in the 110 High Hurdles by Jeremiah Wilson. Wilson was also second in the 300 Hurdles.
Carlos Alleyne was fourth in the 110 Hurdles for Salem while Logan Boettcher took a sixth in the 400 Dash. Salem’s 4×400 Relay team was third and the 4×100 team was sixth.
Glenvar’s boys were 12th in the Junior Division with Blake Custer taking fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot. Brady Loder was fifth in the 200 and Cody Gibson was fifth in the 300 Hurdles. The 4×100 Relay team of Colby Street, Jacob Pomerleau, Colvin Delano and Loder was third.
In the Girls Junior Division Glenvar’s only points came from Brooklyn Moorman, who was fifth in the 300 Hurdles.
Salem’s girls took eighth in Junior Division as Kalei Memmer took first in the discus and third in the shot. McKenzie Moran was second in the pole vault.
The Franklin County boys and Christiansburg girls won the Junior Division team titles. In the middle school division the Read Mountain boys and Northside girls were team winners.
The Glenvar girls took second in the middle school division as Sydney Loder won the 300 Hurdles and High Jump and Carley Wilkes won the 800 and took second in the 1,600. Haley Tyler was third in the 400 and the Highlanders’ 4×400 relay team of Loder, Adriana Hall, Tyler and Wilkes was second.
The Andrew Lewis girls were sixth. The Wolverines were led by top scorer Kaitlyn Crumpacker, who placed third in both the 1600 and 800 meter runs. Neelah Logan placed fourth in the 200 meter dash, while Kaitlyn Creger placed fifth in the high jump. Kenley Coleman took fourth in the 400 meter dash, just missing third by a foot.
Mariah Gahl placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles and My’La Green placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles. The 400 meter relay team of Logan, Green, Creger and Zoe Robtison took home a third place medal as did the 1600 meter relay team of Crumpacker, Gahl, Coleman and Emily Johnson.
The Lewis boys were eighth, led by top scorer Jaimen Lingenfelter who placed in three events. Jamien was fourth in the long and triple jumps and also placed sixth in the 300 m. George Copeland took a fourth in the discus.
The 400 meter relay team of Lingenfelter, Brandon Taylor, Boone Fleenor and Nash Lakin brought home a third place medal while the 1600 meter relay team of Lakin, Fleenor, Taylor, and Tommy Henzey picked up a fourth place finish.
Glenvar’s middle schoolers were third overall among the boys, including a first place finish by Daniel Zearfoss in both the 800 and 1600. Stephan Barber was second in the Long Jump and fourth in both the 200 and High Jump. The boys 4×100 relay team of Barber, Jackson Swanson, Tyler Johnson and Nate Linkous was second.
That ended the season for the middle school teams. The Salem and Glenvar High School teams will compete in the Knights Invitational at Cave Spring High School this weekend.
