The Salem High track team competed in the Region 4D indoor meet at the Edward Long Facility in Penn Laird, VA on Monday and the boys’ team finished fifth. The top three in each event qualified for the state indoor meet at Liberty University on March 2nd and 3rd.
The boys’ had a region champion in DaVon Jones, who won the 55 meter hurdles in 7.82 seconds. Tristan Noel took third in the 500 while Aedon Wiley was sixth in the 300 and Austin Prosser took eighth in the 1,000.
Salem had three relay teams finish in the top three, including a region champion with the 4×400 team of Nick Baxley, Fergens Ciril, Keenan Helm and Jones. The 4×200 team of Baxley, Jones, ji’Zayiah Johnson and Wiley took second and the 4×800 foursome of Grant Horner, Thomas Scharp, Prosser and John Stovall was third.
For the girls, the 4×800 relay team of McKenzie Eversole, Addison Hancock, Olivia Huff and Audrey Harmon placed third and qualified for the state meet. That earned the girls six points and a 13th place finish in the team standings.
Blacksburg High School swept the team championships, winning both the boys and girls Region 4D crowns.
