Andrew Lewis Middle School’s Audrey Lee is again Salem’s City Spelling Bee champion. The 8th grade student recently captured the title in the 6th round of competition when she correctly spelled the word “elevator”.

This is the second straight year that Lee has won the title in the 6th round. Last year, she also took home the regional title and made it all the way to the quarterfinal round of the Scripps Howard National Bee in Washington, D.C.

The competition on Feb. 25 featured Lee facing off against the top spellers from Salem’s four elementary schools. Lee will now compete in the Regional Spelling Bee at Radford University on March 22.

G.W. Carver’s Beth Nielson finished a strong second in the runner-up spot. Congratulations to each of this year’s individual school champs for competing so well.

Abbie Coleman from WSLS served as the guest caller. Coleman is a product of the Salem School Division and a former member of the Salem High School State Champion Forensics program.
