Colby Thompson of Roanoke College, a Glenvar High grad, competes in the triple jump at the Joe LaRocco Invitational in Salem Saturday.

Roanoke College freshman DeShawn Austin and senior Dominic McCombs broke school records at the Joe LaRocco Invitational indoor track meet last weekend. The Maroons had six first place finishes in the meet at the Kerr-Cregger Indoor Fieldhouse in Salem.

Austin broke the school record in the long jump. His winning mark of 7.02m is currently good for third place in the ODAC and fourth in the NCAA South Region.

McCombs broke the program record in the pole vault, finishing second in the event at 4.37m. That height ranks fifth in the conference and ninth and the region.

Elias Ammon won the 800m in 1:55.92, securing the second-fastest time in Roanoke annals. He currently ranks second in the conference and sixth regionally. Amari Carter ran a season-best time of 6.89 seconds to take first in the 60m, moving up to second in the ODAC and a tie for fifth in the South Region.

Roanoke also won the 4×400 relay, with Ammon, Max Cardwell, Mitchell Taylor and Lorenzo Camobreco crossing the tape in 3:23.66.

The Maroon women took the top two spots in the finals of the 60m hurdles, as Rebecca Carr won the race in 9.05 seconds and Olivia Viers followed close behind at 9.16. Ophelia Ladner also set a personal record with a time of 9.08 seconds in the preliminary round. Carr, Ladner and Viers currently hold the top three times in the ODAC, and they all rank inside the top five in the NCAA South Region.

Nalonda Henderson won the 60m with a season-best mark of 7.87 seconds, which ranks second in the conference and ninth in the region.

The Maroons will compete at both the Rockingham Collegiate Classic and the Wittenberg Invite this weekend.

Nolanda Henderson of RC wins the 60 dash with a season’s best time.
