Seven Boy Scouts from Troop 51 in Salem Virginia have achieved the prestigious Four Star Award in the Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.) religious emblems program. The seven recipients are: Reid Burton, Steven Butler, James Davis, Will Harless, Jamie Pennix, Carson Pugh and Charlie Wallace.
To achieve this milestone, these scouts completed four classes in the P.R.A.Y. program including; God & Me, God & Family, God & Church, and God & Life. The boys started this curriculum as Cub scouts between first and third grades and completed their last course this summer as rising sophomores and juniors in high school.
By comparison, each year just over 50,000 Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle while only around 200 scouts achieve the Four Star Award. It is remarkable for Troop 51 at First United Methodist Church to have seven award recipients in one year.
If your child is interested in joining Boy Scouts, Troop 51 meets each Monday night at 7:00 pm in the Scout hall at First United Methodist Church in Salem Virginia. You can visit the Troop 51 website at troop51.salemscouting.org.
