Glenvar High junior Jacson Shepherd shot an 85 to finish 17th out of 60 golfers at the Class 2 state championship tournament Monday. Floyd County won the team championship at the Olde Mill course in Carroll County.
“Jacson kept a smile on his face all day and enjoyed the moment,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “ I really liked his demeanor all day. I’m really proud of him and our golf team.”
The Three Rivers District had two of the top three teams in the state, as Floyd County cruised to the team championship with a team score of 313. Marion was next, 25 strokes behind, with a 338 and James River was third with a 352. Glenvar shot a 354 on the Olde Mill course in the Region 2C tournament, just missing out on a chance to go to state as a team.
“We are losing some quality players and leaders in that senior class but are excited about the opportunities for our young players,” said Duff. “ The seniors have really set the bar for our program. We are sad to see the season end but excited about the future.”
