The Roanoke cross country teams made the trip east to Lynchburg for the 2021 WildCat Cross Country Invitational last Saturday and had some success. The men finished 1-2-3 on their way to winning the event while the women were well on their way to making it a Maroon sweep when the lead pack of Roanoke runners were guided off the course near the finish by course marshals, dropping the team from a potential win to a 3rd place finish.
Peter Smith won the event with a winning time of 24:47.0 over the 8K layout. Chamberlain Zulauf finished runner-up with a time of 27:55.9, giving Roanoke the only two runners of the day to break the 28-minute mark. The Maroons wrapped up the 1-2-3 finish when Cooper Neeble crossed the line at 28:06.5.
For the women freshman Savannah Reid posted a runner-up effort with a final time of 27:33.3 over the 6K course.
The Maroons will look to continue their solid finishes when they travel to Winchester to compete in the 2021 Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University on Saturday, September 25th.
