The Salem Red Sox set a few records last week, some good and some not so good.
The Sox set a new single game attendance record with 8,856 fans at Haley Toyota Field Saturday night, but were unable to send the fans home with a win, falling in record fashion to the Lynchburg Hillcats in an 18-1 loss.
Salem dropped their seventh straight game and eighth straight at home, setting new Red Sox-era records for margin of defeat and runs surrendered in the game. Lynchburg took the lead in the fourth and never looked back, romping the rest of the way. It was the first time Salem has lost eight in a row at home since April 20 through May 11, 1989.
On Sunday the Sox concluded a winless homestand with a 6-2 loss to Lynchburg, losing their eighth straight game and ninth straight at home, marking the second 0-7 homestand in the Red Sox era. The Hillcats picked up their fifth straight win and first sweep of the Sox since August 18-20, 2017.
Salem was outscored on the seven game homestand 67-27. The losses dropped Salem five games behind Potomac in the Northern Division standings of the Carolina League.
The Sox had an off day Monday to clear their heads before heading north for a three-game series against the Potomac Nationals. The Sox were rained out of a Tuesday game and a doubleheader was scheduled for Wednesday in Potomac.
Salem is back home this weekend to host Wilmington for three with start times of 7:05 pm Friday, 6:05 pm Saturday and 2:05 pm Sunday.
