The Salem High wrestlers were in Louisa last weekend for a dual affair, including a match with James Wood, the third ranked Class 4 team in the state. Salem lost that match by just five points, 37-32, but won four others.

Salem came home with skins from host Louisa, 53-19, Mills Godwin, 48-34, Western Albemarle, 68-13, and Thomas Dale, 48-35. Glen Allen High was the overall winner and Salem placed third on criteria behind Glen Allen and James Wood.

Going 5-0 for Salem were Sayge Herndon, Giuseppe Baudanza and Jake James. Patrick Patterson and Derek Bush were both 4-1 while Anthony Baudanza, Kolynn Eastman, Ashton Semones, Tolin Saul and Jay Preston were 3-2.

Salem also had some wrestlers at the Titan Toughman Tournament at Hidden Valley. Robert Herndon won the heavyweight title, going 4-0. Dylan Bonet was 4-1 for fifth and Layden Holland went 2-2, placing fourth.

The Spartans will split up between an event at Deep Run and the Cave Spring “Knights of the Round Table” tournament this weekend.
