The local swimmers had a good day in the pool Saturday as 21 teams gathered for the annual All-Timesland Invitational at the Gator Center in Roanoke. The Salem girls and boys both finished fourth and the Glenvar girls were ninth.
For the Spartan boys, Jake Lawson placed first in the 200 Free and third overall in the 500 Free while brother Nick Lawson placed third in the 200 Free and second in the 500 Free. The men’s 200 Free Relay team of Logan DeWalt, Shayom Debopadhaya, Nick Lawson and Jake Lawson finished first with a new meet record time.
Other strong efforts from the boys included a fourth in the 100 Free and a sixth in the 100 Back by DeWalt and a 10th overall in the 100 Breast by James Miles. Debopadhaya placed fifth in the 200 IM and fourth in 100 Fly, Ben James was eighth in the 50 Free and 10th in the 100 Fly and Rafe Scaggs took 14th in the 200 Free, dropping two seconds off his best time.
Salem boys also finished second in the 400 Free Relay with the same foursome as the 200 Relay. The 400 Free team of Scaggs, Austin Kirtner, Miles and James took eighth.
For the girls, the relay team of Ellyn Anama, Sandy James, McKenna Habeeb and Anna Clare Fleenor took a third in the 200 Free Relay and a sixth in the 200 Medley Relay. Fleenor was also fourth in the 50 Free and third in the 100 Breast. Anama was sixth in the 100 Free and 11th in the 100 Back, James was eighth in the 50 Free and 10th in the 100 Free and Habeeb was seventh in the 100 Free and 11th in the 100 Fly.
Claire Peterson placed 10th overall in the 500 Free while Sarah Kate Brownmiller placed 15th overall in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 Free. Abigail Crawford placed 16th overall in her 200 Free and 14th in the 100 Breast.
For Glenvar, The girls 200 Free Relay team of Aislinn Kerr, Madylin Wheeler, Reece Dunkenberger and Carly Griffth took seventh place, and all four girls did well individually. Dunkenberger was seventh in the 200 Free and ninth in the 100 Free, Wheeler was ninth in the 200 IM and 11th in the 100 Breast, Kerr was 10th in the 50 Free and 12th in the 100 Breast and Griffith was 11th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 100 Free.
The Patrick Henry girls and Albemarle boys were team winners.
