The Salem High girls’ volleyball team dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten when they fell to two strong River River District foes. The Spartans lost for the first time this season last week against defending Class 3 state champion Hidden Valley and Tuesday at Christiansburg, both in three sets.
“Christiansburg is probably the best team in the state in any classification,” said Salem coach Doug Eller.
Salem opened the season with 10 straight wins, including their first two River Ridge District matches. The River Ridge is a tough league for volleyball and Salem is running the gauntlet with Hidden Valley, Christiansburg and a home game against Patrick Henry tonight. Next Tuesday the girls go to Pulaski.
